The US Department of Justice said on August 5 that two Chinese people in California were sued for suspected illegal smuggling of advanced artificial intelligence chips such as NVIDIA (Nvidia) H100 to China.

According to Reuters' reports, 28-year-old Chuan Geng and Shiwei Yang jointly operated ALX Solutions. The company was established in 2022, a period when the US government imposed a new round of control on China's technology exports. Since October 2022, the two have transported chips through shipping and transfer companies in Singapore and Malaysia and other places to cover the actual final destination of China.

The survey pointed out that ALX Solutions has purchased more than 200 Nvidia H100 chips from Super Micro, and the information said that the customer is located in Singapore or Japan, and actually has close contacts with Chinese companies. In addition, the company is also accused of illegally exporting the licensed PNY GeForce RTX 4090 display card.

Currently, Geng Chuan is a permanent resident of the United States and has been insured with US$250,000 (about NT$7.44 million); Yang Shiwei is currently in custody due to overdue signature and is expected to attend the custody hearing in the Federal Court on August 12.
