Classical furniture maintenance: walnut oil and wax

Daily maintenance of classical furniture is very important, and good wood needs better care. Walnut oil or wax is usually used for daily maintenance of classical furniture. Let me introduce these two maintenance methods below.

First of all, walnut oil. Using walnut oil helps to look beautiful, because it has a high oiliness, which makes the patina time for furniture under walnut oil care relatively short. Before wiping walnut oil, we must use a dry cotton cloth to wipe away the dust from the furniture. Then wipe evenly with cotton silk stained with walnut oil. It should be noted that the oil should not be too shiny. At the same time, only by repeatedly rubbing hard until the wood has thoroughly eaten up the oil, the maintenance effect can be the best. There are also some precautions when using walnut oil. Be sure to apply evenly when applying walnut oil to avoid oil spots due to varying thickness of the oil.

Finished walnut oil is available in the classical furniture market. The 50 to 100 ml of walnut oil used in general is about 10 to 20 yuan. If we don't want to buy ready-made walnut oil, we can also do a simple DIY. First wrap a few peeled walnut kernels in a piece of cotton cloth, then crush the walnut kernels to let the oil seep out of the cotton cloth, and then evenly apply it to the surface of the furniture. Doing so can reduce the cost of furniture maintenance.

However, there is one disadvantage to using walnut oil, that is, the surface of furniture that has been applied with walnut oil is easy to absorb dust, and you must also be careful when applying. Therefore, it is easier to wipe wax and does not easily absorb dust. Finished products for maintenance of classical furniture waxes are available in the classical furniture wax market. This wax is a natural wax product that does not contain chemical ingredients, so it does not harm furniture, such as beeswax. The method of applying wax is very simple. Just brush away the dust from the furniture and wipe it directly with cotton wire. But we should pay attention that, just like applying walnut oil, it should be evenly used when waxing. If the wax is rubbed too much, the thickness will be uneven, and wax spots of varying depths will be formed. Do not apply furniture wax too frequently, usually once every one or two months.

In terms of price, classical furniture wax is more expensive than walnut oil, and a bucket of small beeswax is generally around 100 yuan. In addition, this kind of wax is both imported and domestically produced. Of course, imported wax is relatively expensive.
