Today is the 40th anniversary of the Heisel tragedy, and Buffon social media published a message to mourn the deceased.
Buffon wrote on social media: "40 years have passed, and I still have difficulty finding the right words to describe the puzzling and unacceptable tragedy of the Heisel tragedy.
It should have been a night full of sports and passion, but it has become an irreversible nightmare for 39 people, causing a huge blow to a generation - not just Juventus fans - it is a wound that has not healed to this day. We have a duty to remember forever. Today, we want to remember those who have passed away more than ever before. I extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families."
On May 29, 1985, Juventus and Liverpool competed in the Champions League final at Heisel Stadium. The fans in the stands clashed, which eventually led to a tragedy, killing 39 people, mainly for Juventus fans.
