TA reported that Tottenham has officially terminated its partnership with financial adviser Rothschild. In view of Tottenham not selling, both parties agreed to terminate the authorization. Previously, former chairman Levi hired the company in April 2024 to assist in finding external investment.
The decision came after Tottenham publicly rejected three acquisition intentions in the past month. The club first rejected the intention of PCP International Finance Corporation and Firehawk Holdings, led by Staveli, and then "clearly rejected" the informal proposal of a consortium led by US investor Brooklyn Eric.
Since Levi was fired after he ended his nearly 25-year term on September 4, rumors about Tottenham's acquisition have been rampant. Although the club repeatedly insists that it will not be sold, its special equity structure makes it necessary to comply with the UK's Acquisition Code, thereby protecting the interests of about 30,000 small shareholders, who hold a total of 13% of the club's shares. This means that any acquisition must be open and transparent. Under the rules, Starveley's team cannot propose another acquisition within the next six months, and Eric must clarify his acquisition intention by October 24.
Eric claimed that his interest was not unilateral. He had visited club facilities in early August and was accused of having a consortium willing to pay £3.3 billion in acquisition fees plus £1.2 billion in recruitment funds. However, his funding sources remain a mystery, and he failed at the last minute in a deal to acquire the Maserati Formula E fleet in March.
Currently, Tottenham's major shareholder, ENIC Group, owns nearly 87% of the shares, which is controlled by the family trusts of Joe Lewis (holding more than 70% of ENIC) and Levi (holding the remaining ENIC shares), which means that the Levi family still owns about 26% of the club. Despite the firm official stance of the club, many sports industry insiders believe that the Lewis family will eventually explore the possibility of a sale, and may seek help from other financial advisor groups at that time.
