Newcastle player Guimarães was interviewed and talked about his desire for the League Cup, his focus on increasing goals, and the panic he encountered on flights during the international match day.
Newcastle will host Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, and you hope to defend the title. What does this tournament mean to you?
This is of great significance. We want to continue making history. We haven't won a championship in 70 years, but we can win two in a row. It's a great possibility, a great opportunity, so we don't want to miss it. It's going to be a big game for us and we hope we're ready to take advantage of it. This is a big moment, even more because we won last season. We want to win again and continue to make history against a great and very focused team.
On Saturday you scored the 90th-minute winner against Fulham. Head coach Eddie Howe called you a "special player and special person." You seem focused on scoring more goals this season?
I have to get into the box more. To be honest, sometimes I miss simple goals. The match against Fulham was a good example of how I can influence the team in that way. It was my 150th Premier League start for the club and I was delighted to score in that opportunity. The staff asked me to get into the box more and help there and I was in a good position and scored an important goal for us.
It has been a busy and difficult start to the season, including some travel chaos during this month's international break, when you and Joelinton were reporting to Brazil. What happened on the flight?
Two windows were broken during the flight. We were in the air and couldn't stop, so we had to fly back. So we lost a few hours because of that. From Amsterdam to Amsterdam...I've never seen anything like this before. I was sleeping. I just woke up and said: 'Two hours to fly back to Amsterdam? ’ I don’t understand anything. But then they explained to me that the plane was shaking a lot during the flight. I'm not afraid. Later, when I found out about the situation, I was a little scared. But during the flight, I was fine. Joelinton was awake and when I woke he said: 'We're going back'. I couldn't believe it. I said, ‘Are you serious? '
