Jamaican forward Antonio, who suffered a serious car accident in December last year, chose to terminate the contract with West Ham United this summer and become a free agent. Antonio, 35, is currently working as a TNT sports commentator, but in an interview with talksport, Antonio said his player career is far from over.
Antonio was asked whether his new role means he has ended his career. "No, absolutely not," Antonio replied. "I'm talking to some clubs now to see which club can give me the best chance, let's see."
When asked what level of team he hopes to join, Antonio continued: "To be honest, there are all kinds of possibilities. We are talking to local clubs and communicating with foreign clubs, but I won't disclose the specific details for the time being. In short, we have contacts with England and foreign clubs." Antonio also revealed that one of his goals for the team is to stay in shape and participate in next year's World Cup.
"In fact, I want to play the World Cup 100%. This is a goal that I haven't achieved personally, that's to play in the World Cup, and Jamaica is very close."
"It's not just that, I don't want my career to end in a car accident. So I need to prove that I can return and be able to play well again, and I've been doing it for the past ten years. Even before the crash, I was a starter at West Ham United, which shows that I still have the ability to do it again."
